Where to mount curtain panels is a common discussion with my clients. Most of the time, going high is the best option. Also going wide and mounting from window frame out and covering some wall space instead of the window is preferable to enjoy more of your view and more light. Because I love light and the view of trees in my own backyard, that’s what I do in my own home too.
In these two living rooms below, the shades provide the privacy or light control and they can open and close, but the curtain pole for the stationary panels goes up to the crown moulding, giving the room visual height. The curtain panels just cover the window frame so when the shades are open, you can enjoy light and and the trees outside.
This bedroom also has a valance and by going up to the moulding not only do we add height but it also covers the top of the shade.
Many many years ago we may have installed the pole under the arch, but no more! This window and living room look more grand with the window treatments all the way up to the sloped ceiling line.
So going up high and wide is usually the way to go!
