To add height to a window and a room, mount window treatments above the window frame and up to the molding. This client didn’t want wall space between the window and the curtain pole, so we filled in the space with some ironwork. It was a very traditional formal living room, just their style and they loved it! By mounting the window treatments to the molding, the windows looked taller, and it gave the whole room visual height and elegance.
This space looks a lot more dramatic with custom panels mounted high vs mounting them below the arch.
Valances should also be mounted high, not only for looks but to avoid covering natural light. Make sure they cover the top of the window frame and any valance on blinds or shades.
